Poker Hands
Poker hands fall into one of 10 categories. At the top is a royal flush, a straight flush, four of a kind, a full house, a flush, a straight, three of a kind, two pairs, one pair, and then a high card. That holds true for all the major poker variants, Texas Hold’em included the poker cheat sheet for when you play so you always know the hierarchy of hands from best to worst. Visit This.
Poker Hands Ranked In Order
Royal Flush
It consists of an ace, king, queen, jack and ten of the same suit, the best hand in poker and is known as a Royal Flush. For example, A♦,K♦,Q♦,J♦,10♦ is a Royal Flush, but the suit doesn’t matter just so long as these value cards are all the same suit.
Poker hands are ranked by rarity, and the top of the tree is what most people know – a Royal Flush. In films, it has been popularised for its glamour and its prestige is rightly so. In poker, nothing beats a Royal Flush, it is the highest hand possible. The Royal Flush is so rare that most recreational players only see a handful in their life (playing Texas Hold’em).
Straight Flush
A straight flush is not as high or as rare as a Royal, but it is the next best hand in poker. Basically, a Straight Flush is five cards of the same suit but they do not need to be the ace, king, queen, jack and ten. As such they are much more common than Royals, but still a rare bird. The second-best hand in poker is a Straight Flush, which can only be beaten by a Royal Flush (or a superior Straight Flush).
Four-Of-A-Kind
Four-of-a-kind, or ‘Quads’ is the third best poker hand. It is four cards of the same value, e.g. four of aces. It is a pretty good hand that only gets beaten by Royal or Straight Flushes (or a higher four-of-a-kind).
Full House
Full House is a poker hand of three-of-a-kind and a pair. Doesn’t matter which way round (E.g. you could have two aces and three kings or three aces and two kings), either is a Full House But if both players have a Full House the player with the higher 3-of-a-kind wins. A♥, A♦, A♠ ,K♥,K♦ is a stronger Full House than A♣, A♠, K♠, K♣, K♥, for instance. because the 3-of-a-kind has a higher value. If the 3-of-a-kinds 3 in the Full House are equal, the hand with the pair in the hand will then win.
Flush
In poker, a Flush consists of five cards of the same suit. It doesn’t matter which suit, all suits are equal, but if you have Five of the same suit, for example five diamonds, then you have a Flush. The strength of the Flush depends on its highest card and then the second highest, continuing on down to the 5th. This comes into effect when two or more players have a Flush.
Straight
A Straight consists of five cards with consecutive numerical value, e.g. 2♣,3♠,4♥,5♠,6♦. Suit does not matter (unless all five cards have the same suit and the hand is a straight flush) as long as five cards are in order. There is also a hierarchy in the event of two Straights, with the higher of the two straights winning.
3-Of-A-Kind
In poker, 3-of-a-kind is three cards of the same value with two other random cards, such as three kings, a two and a five. In poker, three-of-a-kind is a good poker hand. If both hands have 3-of-a-kind, the one with the highest numeric value of the 3-of-a-kind wins.

When two poker hands are tied, the winner is determined by a kicker. A kicker is the next card of higher value outside of the pair / three of a kind etc. So, a pair of 8s and a K kicker beats a pair of 8s and a 10 kicker. If both hands are the same, the pot is divided.
